This almond butter and chia jam toast makes the perfect breakfast, lunch, snack, or even dessert! The richness of the almond butter pairs so nicely with the sweetness of the mixed berry jam. Combined with the crunch of the hemp hearts and sliced almonds on top, this toast is a winner!

almond butter toast on a plate

Packed with protein, fiber, and unsaturated fats, not only is this toast totally delicious, it's healthy, too. Does it get better than this?

ingredients you need for the toast

One of the best things about this toast is that it only requires a few key ingredients! Talk about easy. This is definitely a simple recipe and takes less than 15 minutes to make.

ingredients needed to make the almond butter toast with jam

1 slice whole-grain bread: Feel free to use your favorite bread for this! I love using whole grain, seed bread, or a simple whole wheat variety. But hey, if you like white bread best, there's no judgment here! Use what YOU love!

1 tablespoon natural almond butter: I love using natural almond butter because the only ingredient is almonds. There are no fillers, gums, stabilizers, or sugars added (say what)?! I know you might be skeptical, but almond butter tastes amazing Au Naturel!

1 ½ tablespoon homemade mixed berry chia jam: This jam is the bomb.com, and I'm not kidding. It's SO versatile, healthy, and delicious! Made with berries, lemon juice, honey, maple syrup, and cinnamon, this jam escapes all the added sugars that come with store-bought jam. For all the deets, see https://www.savorthespoonful.com/mixed-berry-chia-seed-jam/.

½ teaspoon hemp hearts: Ah, gotta love hemp hearts. Such a simple, no-brainer add-on to this already amazing toast! Hemp hearts pack some extra protein in this recipe and add a beautiful texture to the top, too. (We all know pretty counts!)

½ tablespoon sliced almonds: It wouldn't be almond butter toast without sliced almonds, right?! They add some extra crunch and satisfaction, but you can use any nuts here, or feel free to omit if you're not a super-almond-lover person. (This is almond butter toast, though, so...)

how to make almond butter & chia jam toast

I'll be honest, it's not rocket science for this one! Making this almond butter and chia jam toast is super easy, quick, and great for busy mornings (or a midnight snack when you just can't wait)!

a collage of four images demonstrating the steps of creating the almond butter and chia jam toast.

    Step 1: Toast The Bread

Well, that's easy, right? I like to toast mine until just golden-brown, but do what you like best! If you're one of those people that likes their toast black and charred, I will never understand... But hey, who am I to comment on your toast preferences?? Whatever you wanna do, man! I would recommend toasting your bread long enough that it's not super soft and flimsy, though, or it might be hard to spread the almond butter and jam.

Step 2: Spread The Almond Butter

If you're using natural almond butter like me, make sure you stir it really well first! Since natural almond butter doesn't have gums and stabilizers added, sometimes it will separate a little bit. Give it a good stir and you're all set to spread!

Step 3: Spread the Chia Jam

It's all about layers on this toast, and the chia jam layer is an important one! I love using my homemade mixed berry chia jam because it's super easy to make and I can customize the flavors exactly how I want. For this recipe in particular, I used a combination of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries to make my chia jam spread. You can do the same with my chia jam recipe, and don't be afraid to layer it on heavy!

Step 4: Top with Hemp Hearts (add optional sliced almonds)

At last, we've reached the end of crafting this super quick almond butter and chia jam toast. I told you it was easy, right? Sprinkle on those hemp hearts and almonds and you're ready to E-A-T! Woohoo!

a bite taken out of the toast

extra tips for making the toast

Easily double the recipe for TWO slices of toast! Sometimes one slice of toast is perfect for a snack or mid-morning bite. But if you're wanting a bit more, it's super easy to make two slices to help keep you full and satisfied.

Can I store the toast for later? While I recommend eating the almond butter and chia jam toast immediately, you should be fine to keep it in the fridge for a few hours, or overnight, if you want to meal-prep a bit! If storing for longer than a few hours, place it in an air-tight container in the fridge.

Can I make this gluten-free? Abso-freaking-lutely! Just substitute with your favorite gluten-free bread and you should be all set.

What else can I add to the toast? There are so many options! I love adding a drizzle of honey for some extra sweetness, or a dash of cinnamon if I'm feeling adventurous! You can also add additional nuts like walnuts, peanuts, cashews, or my personal favorite, pecans!

    Equipment

    • Toaster

    Ingredients

    • 1 slice whole grain bread (or whole wheat)
    • 1 tablespoon natural creamy almond butter (I look for almonds as the only ingredient!)
    • 1 ½ tablespoon homemade mixed berry chia jam (see linked recipe below)
    • ½ teaspoon hemp hearts
    • ½ tablespoon sliced almonds (optional, or use your favorite nut)

    Instructions

    • Toast 1 slice of whole grain or whole wheat bread to your desired toast preference.
    • Spread the natural almond butter on the toast. Creamy almond butter spreads evenly and easily.
    • Add the chia seed jam on top of the almond butter and spread.
    • Top with hemp hearts and sliced almonds, or add your favorite nuts and seeds.
    • Serve and enjoy immediately.

    Notes

Chia Seed Jam Recipe here: https://www.savorthespoonful.com/mixed-berry-chia-seed-jam/
Easily double the recipe if you want 2 slices of toast instead of 1.
Natural almond butter with almonds as the only ingredient is the healthiest almond butter you can find. No fillers, gums, or stabilizers, and it tastes amazing!
You can substitute sliced almonds with walnuts, pecans, peanuts, cashews, or your favorite nut. Or, omit the nuts if you prefer that.
You can substitute hemp hearts with flax seed, or more chia seeds if you'd like.
Additional topping ideas: drizzle of honey, dash of cinnamon, or fresh berries.

I drink chia seeds every day so naturally I had to try this! I used a whole wheat English muffin instead of bread and boy was it delicious! Highly recommend.
